When the institute was first established in 1994, it just had an arts faculty. In 2009, it added colleges of commerce and science to its list of offerings. The Department of Botany was established in the same year and began providing undergraduate programs. Since then, the department’s undergraduate curriculum has expanded to include a Postgraduate degree in Botany. It now provides a certificate program that focuses on the Plants identification & nomenclature. The department currently has two well-stocked laboratories with all the tools, equipment, charts and specimens needed. Two faculty members on a contract and four permanent faculty members meet the necessary standards for staffing. Two of the four full-time faculty members are Ph.D. holders, while the other two are NET/SET certified. The department’s academic staffs actively engages in research projects, writes books, and make a major contribution to the processes of teaching, learning, and evaluation. Admission to both UG and PG programs, UG is granted to departments with stable student enrollment of about 245 students.
